Committee of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1972. Objectives of the activity of the committee are related to integration of the scientists working in the field of biocybernetics and biomedical engineering in Poland and coordination of initiatives leading to advanced research in this field.
Members of the committee are experts in the field of biocebernetics and biomedical engineering. They represent research organisations as well as companies involved in manufacturing of biomedical equipment. They are elected for years terms. Chairmen of the Committee were: prof. Maciej Nałęcz (1972-2007), prof. Andrzej Weryński (2007-2011), prof. Roman Maniewski (2011-2020) and presently prof. Adam Liebert.

On December 17th 2021 the sixth meeting of the Committee for Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering for the 2020-2023 term was held. The meeting was held online.
Three specialists in the field of scientific, economic and social life were appointed to the Committee:

- Prof. dr hab. Eng. Marta Szachniuk
An unanimous decision was made to entrust the organization of the XXIII Polish Conference on Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering to the Institute of Electronics of the Lodz University of Technology. The preliminary date of the conference is set to September 20-22, 2023.
The resolution on the establishment of the Biomedical Engineering Panel at the National Science Centre of Poland was adopted (link to the resolution – in Polish).
The Committee discussed the strategic program in the field of biomedical engineering, the position of the discipline in the Polish Scientific Excellence Council (RDN) and the evaluation of the Committees' activities.

The Silesian University of Technology held a ceremony to award Professor Metin Akay, an outstanding researcher in modern biomedical engineering, with the Doctor Honoris Causa degree. The ceremony took place at the Education and Congress Centre at the Silesian University of Technology.
Professor Metin Akay is a leading researcher in the field of biomedical engineering. He is the founder of the new Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and the Professor of biomedical engineering John S. Dunn at the University of Houston. He is the acting President of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
