On 29 May 2026, the fifth meeting of the Committee on Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences during the 2024–2027 term was held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology. The main topics of discussion were the evaluation of scientific journals and the underfunding of biomedical engineering.
Regarding the new rules for compiling the list of scientific journals, concerns were raised about the risk of reduced representation of biomedical engineering and discrepancies between the existing journal scores and Impact Factor values. A proposal was made to establish a Committee working group to address the ranking of Polish journals in this field.
A proposal was also put forward to adopt a position on the underfunding of the discipline and to support the “3% for Science, 100% for Poland” initiative. Attention was also drawn to the limited emphasis on health and population ageing in the proposed European Competitiveness Fund. It was agreed that Committee members would submit proposals identifying breakthrough technologies in biomedical engineering.
The meeting also included a visit to the laboratories of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology.
